Point-to-Point Wireless Transport Systems Create a Win-Win for Everyone

By Holt Hackney, Managing Editor

Apogee Telecommunications’ CEO, Chuck Brady, was in a quandary.

The Zeta sorority house, just a stone’s throw away from the University of Texas at Austin, desperately wanted to connect the residents of the sorority house to the Internet for the upcoming fall semester. But there was no time for Apogee to do the half-mile cable build from its existing fiber.

Brady, whose company provides networking services to colleges and universities as well as the apartment and houses that are near them, had an epiphany. Apogee was already servicing the 24-floor private dormitory called the Castilian. Why couldn’t he transmit the signal wirelessly from the roof of the Castilian to the roof of the Zeta house? Indeed, the technology worked, delivering significant cost efficiencies to company, which now uses the same technology to a multitude of other sorority houses.

“This technology has expanded so much in recent years, creating a tremendous amount of options, not only for telecommunications companies like us, but also the business end user,” said Robbie Paver, the technology director at Apogee.

BridgeWave is a leader in this space, providing enterprises, carriers, and ISPs with an easy way to connect expansive IP networks, forming a cohesive system. “These solutions deliver an outstanding ROI and superior performance,” said Jim Swan, a wireless solutions professional at BearCom. “The BridgeWave platform possesses exceptional interference mitigation techniques and multiple layers of security.”

The components of a BridgeWave system can be configured to form high-speed network connections for use in wireless point-to-point bridging, channelized T1 (voice and data), and other data applications.
